Of all American fashion icons, Jackie Kennedy might just be the classiest of all time. With her matching suit sets, tweed jackets, and sun dresses, she brought a youthfulness and style to the Kennedy administration, and forever encapsulated the classic, all-American look. Aside from her style, Jackie was a staunch believer in preserving the beauty of American history. It had been custom in presidencies of the past for officials to just keep or sell White House items at the end of an administration’s term. The White House was viewed as simply just a temporary living space rather than a treasure to be preserved. Jackie wasn’t interested in decorating with 60s style furniture. She longed to fill the White House with treasures that told the story of America’s past. Jackie set about engaging with collectors and museums to retrieve original White House pieces, and began building up quite the collection of artifacts. To show that history didn’t have to be boring and stuffy, she televised a tour of the revamped White House that pulled in around 80 million viewers. Jackie breathed life back into the past. She took the beauty of what already existed, gave it a fresh look, and championed it with style and class.
Jackie Kennedy also knew that fashion was oh so important when it came to representing America. Her clothes and overall look were carefully curated to give America that timeless, yet modern look for the world stage to see. I think it’s safe to say that it worked! When one thinks of iconic style, one thinks of Jackie Kennedy. Her time as First Lady is a testament to the importance of preserving all that is beautiful. She is a champion of all that is lovely and good in this nation, and is forever one of my favorite American heroines.
Owning Jackie K’s entire wardrobe would be a dream, so I am always on the lookout for pieces that have some of her flair. When I saw that Ivy City Co was releasing this dress (link HERE) as a part of their winter collection, I had to snag it. It is the perfect workwear dress! Even my co-workers have commented that it reminds them of Jackie Kennedy, and there couldn’t be a better compliment than that 😉
Happy Monday!
