Welcome back to another Classic Style Inspo post! Today we have the striking (and rather serious looking) Lauren Bacall. I first learned about Lauren Bacall when digging through my mom’s DVD cabinet. My 7-year-old self pulled out a DVD cover that donned a picture of Lauren Bacall. I was immediately struck by how pretty she was, and instantly wanted to learn more about her!
Don’t let her serious expression in these pics fool you! When watching interviews, I was surprised by how friendly and personable she was! Her serious image definitely didn’t match her personality. This post has been the hardest to write because I have had to cut out so many incredible photos of her style (don’t want y’all to have to endlessly scroll!). I have learned so much about Lauren since I first discovered her at 7-years, and I cannot wait for you to see these beautiful pictures! Before we dive in, I have to say the dress in the pic above is so stunning and I think even Audrey Hepburn herself would have a hard time topping that look 😉
I love how the American way of dressing incorporates so many different preferences in style. While stars like Doris Day and Ginger Rogers had a more girly way of dressing, Lauren Bacall often donned more boyish cuts. When analyzing her way of dressing on and off the screen, her style seemed to incorporate manly looks with subtle feminine elements.
In the 40s, she often went for simple, uniform dresses that were enhanced by a simple pattern (such as hounds tooth or stripes). Pants and boyish-looking shorts were a huge part of her daily uniform.
Happy Wednesday!
