With her cute 50s haircut and timeless 50s styles, she perfectly embodies that classic girl-next-door look. In my past old style inspo post, I contrasted Ginger Rogers‘ movie style to her personal style. When examining Doris Day, there isn’t much a difference! Of course she didn’t wear all the glamourous movie gowns in her day-to-day life, but many of her casual movie looks aren’t too different from her own wardrobe. She always talked about the importance of dressing nicely and she definitely practiced what she preached!
Another one of the reasons I love Doris Day is for her charity work with dogs. She absolutely loved her pets and started The Doris Day Animal Foundation to protect all her furry friends. She had a big heart, and used her influence for the good of people (and dogs of course!). Another fun fact that I recently learned about Doris Day is that she loved Michael Bublé (this is definitely another win in my book). One of my all time favorite quotes from her on living life is, “I like joy; I want to be joyous; I want to have fun on the set; I want to wear beautiful clothes and look pretty. I want to smile and I want to make people laugh. And that’s all I want. I like it. I like being happy. I want to make others happy.”
In 2004, she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom (the highest award given to a citizen) and stated,
Happy Friday!
